The news of the Secretary to Edo State Government, SSG, Osarodion Ogie Esq disrespecting the revered Benin monarch, HRM, Oba Ewuare 11, making the rounds on the social media is not true after all, a source in Edo State Government House has said.

There has been talk on some online gossip platforms that the SSG dishonoured the Benin monarch, over the courtesy visit paid him by the President of Nigeria Industrial Court, fuelling speculations that the top government official risked the wrath of the ancestors for disrespecting the Benin monarch regarding the letter he was reported to have signed on behalf of the State Governor, Godwin Obaseki. In the said news, he was said to have pleaded with His Majesty to receive the judges and officials of the National Industrial court led by its president, Justice Babatunde Adejumo.

The letter which was addressed to the monarch by the SSG reads thus...
Attention:
Secretary to the Oba of BeninRequest For Courtesy Visit To His Royal Majesty:I respectfully request you to kindly inform His Royal Majesty that a team of judges and officials of the National Industrial Court, Abuja is expected to visit the Palace of the Oba of Benin. It will be highly appreciated if His Royal Majesty graciously approves a Courtesy Visit by the Team to be led by Hon. Justice Babatunde A. Adejumo, President, National Industrial Court, Abuja on Monday 16th September, 2019 at 3: 00pm.I am to add that any inconveniences caused the Palace by this short notice is deeply regretted. Oba ghato Okpere, Ise!Singed: Osarodion Ogie,Secretary to the state Government.

A source in Osadebe Avenue, the seat of government in the state capital who craved anonymity said those peddling the rumours with intention to cause disaffection between the Royal Majesty and the SSG are unaware of the workings of government processes.

"Justice Adejumo came to Edo State to commission the Benin Division of the National Industrial Court built by Governor Godwin Obaseki which was established in 1978 with a mandate to mediate into dispute between employer and employees, the government and Staff.

"The date for commissioning was fixed by Industrial Court not Edo State Govt. Edo State Govt had just 48hours to make the invitations and other commissioning arrangements as the President of Industrial Court was retiring that same week,” the source said.
