COVID-19: PANIC AS EDO RECORDS 63 SUSPECTED CASES, 250 CONTACTS, OWAN, ETSAKOR, ESAN NOT SPARED

The Edo State commissioner for health, Dr. Patrick Okundia has appealed to residents of Edo State on the need to comply with directives aimed at curtailing the spread of the novel Covid-19.

He gave the appeal Wednesday in Benin City, the state capital while giving updates to newsmen. He disclosed that 11 confirmed cases have been recorded across four local government areas in the state, with 63 suspected cases and 250 contacts spread across nine local government areas.


Breakdown of the affected local government areas are as listed below:
1. Oredo - 4 confirmed and 28 suspected cases
2. Esan West - 2 and 11 suspected cases
3. Egor - 2 and 5 suspected cases
4. Ovia North East - 1 and 2 suspected cases.
5. Esan North East - 3 suspected cases
6. Esan Central - 6 suspected cases
7. Ikpoba Okha - 5 suspected cases.
8. Etsako West - 2 cases
9. Owan West -  1 case

The Commissioner further reiterated the need for residents to take responsibility in helping to curb the spread of the virus by strict adherence to guidelines and government’s directives.
