IHONVBERE RECEIVES BEST LEGISLATOR IN COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD


The lawmaker representing Owan Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Prof. Julius O. Ihonvbere OON, has been awarded the Best Legislator in Community Service of the Year. He received the award at an event hosted by the Top Flyers' International Magazine at Rockview Hotels in Abuja, Nigeria on Saturday, December 12, 2020.

Prof. Ihonvbere, upon receiving the award, expressed his gratitude for the gesture, and promised to perform even better by efficiently representing his constituents and attracting greater development to the area of representation.

Other personalities who also received varying categories of award were some top Governors, Ministers, Senators and Captains of Industries from Topflyer’s Magazine International.

“I am proud to have received the award as the Best Legislator in Community Service of the Year. I appreciate this award and promise to do even more in the coming year to ensure efficient and articulate representation for the people of Owan,” the lawmaker said.

The recognition, according to the organizers was as a result of the lawmaker’s enormous contributions to humanity, societal re-engineering, national integration, positive disposition towards notable causes on national issues and community development.

Topflyers Magazine noted that it has followed his uncommon political exploits in the mucky waters of Nigeria’s politics, where his excellent contributions have rekindled hope for the common man in Nigeria, especially Edo State I particular.

“Little wonder you can best be described as Da mihilocum standi et ego movun movebo, meaning give me a place to stand and I will move the world.

“Furthermore, your experience in both the private and public sectors, has given you an edge over your contemporaries. Consequently, your legislative proficiency has earned you one of the most vibrant and articulate legislators in the National Assembly as your humility, compassion to the vulnerable in our society are unparalleled,” a statement by the magazine said.

Owan Federal Constituency has seen great development and practical changes brought by the lawmaker in the area of education, human capital development, job creation, community support and infrastructure.

Some of the programmes and projects within his 18 months in office include; training on desktop publishing and web design, with the distribution of 15 brand new HP laptops in collaboration with National Biosafety Management Agency (NBMA), Ministry of Environment;  Vocational; skill training programme for 135 youths on shoe and bag production in collaboration with Heritage & Sports Colony International; Moral/Cultural Sensitization Program on Cultism and Drug Abuse for Youths in Owan Federal Constituency, in collaboration with National Institute for Cultural Orientation; Seminar/Public sensitization on environmental issue and distribution of Mobile washing hand drums in Strategic locations across the Constituency; distribution of empowerment materials to 650 Youths in Owan Federal Constituency in collaboration with Border Communities Development Agency; training of 50 youths on poultry and fish production in collaboration with Nigerian Institute of Animal Science; cultural sensitization programme for youths in Owan Federal Constituency in collaboration with National Institute for Cultural Orientation; entrepreneurial training in agriculture for youths in Owan Federal Constituency in conjunction with Benin Owenna River Basin Development Authority; and training of youths on leather work by Nigerian Institute of Leather and Science Technology - a full week residential training for 15 participants mostly practicing leatherworks practitioners.

Others include; provision of 17 solar street light at Iloje, Okpuje, Owan West LGA; provision of 300KVA transformer to Ovbiokhuanri-Ora, Owan West LGA; provision and installation of 500 KVA transformer in Ikpeyan - Okpuje, Owan West LGA; provision and installation of 500 KVA transformer in Okpuje road - Uzebba, Owan West LGA; provision and installation of 500 KVA transformer at Uzebba Grammar School Ifon Road, Owan West LGA; construction of a borehole at Ekweran, Ugbada and Ozalla in Owan West LGA respectively;

Furthermore, Owan has witnessed tremendous changes in the area of school constructions and renovations with about 13 Schools already been constructed and renovated,; 9 schools supplied with instructional materials and many more still ongoing.

Prof. Ihonvbere, has over 18 motions and 4 bills to his credit, with over 10 motions and bills he has contributed to at the floor of the National Assembly.

Some of the bills and motions include; Bill for an Act to Establish the Federal University of Sports, Afuze, Edo State; Motion on the Need for the intervention in Edo State House of Assembly Crisis; Motion on the Need to Revamp the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN), Uhonmora Substation Edo State; Motion on the Need to Complete the Abandoned Sabo- Sobe Road in Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State;  amongst others.
