EDO PDP REOLVES CRISIS, LIFTS AZIEGBEMI'S SUSPENSION

Edo Gov. Godwin Obaseki (l), and Dr. Tony
Aziegbemi, reinstated party Chairman.

The People Democratic Party in Edo State has resolved its leadership crisis, and the suspension placed on the Chairman of the party in the state, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi lifted.

It will be recalled that Dr. Aziegbemi was suspended in June, 2021, following the two-thirds majority of members’ resolution in a motion that he step aside, and therefore suspended from his position.

“Hon. Harrison Omagbon, the State Deputy Chairman, had then been made to act in his place until the determination of the allegations levied against him,” Chris Nehikhare, the State’s Publicity Secretary of PDP, had said in a statement.

Dr. Aziegbemi was accused of gross misconduct by “brewing unnecessary tension and disunity among party members in the state in a manner akin to bringing the party into disrepute,” Nehikhare’s statement had further said.

However, following a meeting by the State Working Committee of the party after its working committee meeting had called to deliberate on the report of the Investigative Committee set up to investigate the allegations of gross misconduct against the suspended Chairman,  he, Tony Aziegbemi, has been exonerated and acquitted of the earlier allegations preferred against him.

In a statement signed by Nehikhare, PDP’s Spokesperson in the state, he disclosed that Dr. Aziegbemi has been asked to resume his office with immediate effect.

“We thank all party members, supporters and leaders for their cooperation and support during this period of self audit,” Nehkhare added, in the statement.
